A series of concerts at unique locations: churches, private homes, and on boats. The final concert is traditionally held on the Prinsengracht on a stage built over the canal. People with boats will be queuing for hours in the canal to have a good view of this unique concert, featuring a renowned (Dutch or international) musician.
For a couple of years now the first weekend in August is “Gay Pride” with numerous parties and a Pride parade on the canals, drawing enormous crowds (somethimes over 500.000) to see the Queens and Dykes float along in a colorful spectacle!
It is one big orange party. Celebrating the birthday of the King, April 27th. The city turns crazy and orange (it is the House of Orange, the Dutch Royal Family), and many people from around the world have discovered this Dutch Carnival.
Taste of Amsterdam
Every year, Taste of Amsterdam takes over the Amstelpark for four days of eating, drinking and entertainment. From May 30th - June 2nd, the park will once again become a Mecca for food lovers in Amsterdam.
From May 29th - June 2nd, tens of mobile kitchens will descend upon the park at the Westergasfabriek to create an enormous open air restaurant! The food is designed to tickle the most culinary of taste buds without breaking the bank.
Amsterdam Light Fesitival
The Amsterdam Light Festival puts the beautiful city centre and its canals in the limelight from the beginning of December to half January. A canal cruise and walking route taking selection of spectacular illuminated artworks.
Vondelpark Open Air Theatre
From June to August, the Vondelpark Open Air Theatre presents a three-month programme packed with dance, cabaret, jazz, children's theatre, stand-up comedy and all genres of music. Head to the Open Air Theatre in the Vondelpark to catch a performance on Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer. Entry is free, although all voluntary donations are appreciated.
Amsterdam Fashion Week
Where inspiring, entertaining and astounding theatre, music, book and film lovers alike come together in the last weekend of August. Annually attracting more than 500,000 visitors, the Uitmarkt is one of the country's most popular cultural events and the traditional opening of the cultural season. The festival features more than 450 performances by some 2,000 artists. From classical to kid-friendly, hip-hop to dance and theatre to jazz - there's something for everyone.
Arrival of Sinterklaas
Every November, Sinterklaas travels from his home in Spain to the Netherlands, bringing presents and special treats for the children.
